The New Orleans National Weather Service has provided the latest weather outlook for the city, predicting a fairly warm and humid pattern with sporadic chances of rain and thunderstorms over the next several days. The high humidity—sitting at a sticky 90 percent—and temperatures hovering near the 90-degree mark are typical for the Crescent City this time of year, but residents and visitors alike should be mindful of the slight chance of unpredictable showers and thunderstorms.
Today's forecast on NWS indicates "a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1pm, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4pm," with a comfortable high near 90 degrees. The light south winds will pick up slightly, reaching speeds of 5 to 10 mph as the morning progresses. These conditions are expected to continue into the evening, with skies becoming partly cloudy and the low settling around a balmy 77 degrees.
The outlook for Memorial Day looks similar, with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 pm, according to NWS New Orleans. The rest of the week appears somewhat unsettled, punctuated by a 60 percent chance of precipitation by Wednesday. As skies alternate between sun and clouds, those planning outdoor activities should keep a watchful eye on the sky and consider keeping an umbrella close at hand.
The pattern of intermittent showers and warm temperatures is forecasted to extend into the weekend, offering no significant reprieve from the humid conditions New Orleanians are all too familiar with. Friday "showers and thunderstorms likely," the NWS states, with partly sunny conditions and a high again near 87 degrees providing slight fluctuations in the otherwise consistent temperature trend. Nighttime will offer modest relief with lows in the lower to mid-70s throughout the week.
