John Wozniak, 49, of Sturbridge, was arrested after allegedly robbing a bank in Auburn without using a weapon. According to the Auburn Police Department's Facebook post, Wozniak passed a threatening note to a teller at Savers Bank on Wednesday last week and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.
A tip about a suspicious vehicle in Worcester helped police locate Wozniak. During a separate vehicle pursuit, Worcester Police began a foot chase with Wozniak, who was seen dropping cash as he ran. Auburn Police Department stated that communication between them and Worcester Police was key to identifying and apprehending the suspect.
Auburn Police Department responded to the bank quickly, deploying detectives, K9 units, and drones. Investigators matched Wozniak’s description with the help of shared information between the departments.
Wozniak was arraigned on charges of unarmed robbery and threat to commit a crime. He was held following a Dangerousness Hearing. The case will continue in Worcester District Court, where the legal process will determine the outcome.
