A man has been taken into custody following a stabbing incident that left one woman dead and a man injured at a Sunrise apartment complex. Jackson Julian Sagesse, 21, of Sunrise, faces charges including premeditated murder and attempted felony murder, as reported by Local 10 News.

The attack occurred yesterday morning at The Retreat at Sawgrass Village, with the first emergency call coming at around 1:42 a.m. The male victim, who suffered a neck wound, was able to provide a description of the assailant to police before being transported to the hospital. The female victim, Hailey Hosford, 28, from Boca Raton, was tragically found deceased in the backseat of a black Mercedes-Benz sedan, her wounds suggested a violent end with multiple stabs to her neck and throat, NBC Miami reports.

Officers apprehended Sagesse shortly after the attacks, recovering a steak knife from his pocket, which matched the description of one found in the vehicle alongside Hosford. According to the arrest report, Sagesse gave a statement to detectives confessing to the crime, but those details have been redacted from the public release.

The residents of the complex are grappling with the shock of such a violent act in their community. "What would drive somebody to do something like that here? Especially in such a place where there’s not really many violent crimes, but it’s extremely sad to hear," resident Ty Vassil explained in an interview with WSVN. As of the latest reports, Sagesse remains in custody at the Broward Main Jail, without bond, and further charges are pending against him.

The exact motives behind the attack are still under investigation, and no additional information about the relationship between the victims and the suspect has been released.  The Sunrise Police Department has not provided any updates since the original reports.
