Authorities reported that a routine traffic stop yesterday morning escalated into a high-speed chase, culminating in a crash into a Lenoir City radio station. Around 9:30 a.m., a deputy from the Loudon County Sheriff's Office attempted to pull over a vehicle for erratic driving near Martel Road, but the driver, whose identity has not been disclosed, allegedly sped off, leading to a chase through Lenoir City, as per WVLT.
The pursuit continued onto Broadway and ended when the suspect tried navigating a turn down a side street at an unsafe speed, crashing into the corner of La Lider WKZX 93.5 FM radio station's building and colliding with a parked truck, Cpl. Cody Bengel with the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office detailed that WBIR also reported that an employee was present inside at the time of the impact, but miraculously escaped injury.
Photos from the scene showed significant structural damage to the building, including a large hole in the first floor, an image that echoed across social media after the incident. Despite the dramatic crash, no injuries were reported, either from the station or individuals in the vicinity, a stroke of good fortune amidst the chaos of the chase. The suspect was promptly arrested following the crash and is facing multiple charges, among them DUI and felony evading, WATE confirmed.
