A violent domestic altercation erupted in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood last week, culminating in a double shooting and leading to a recent arrest. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police detailed the events that began on April 17, wherein a 23-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman, related by blood, were found injured from gunshot wounds. The incident occurred in the family home located in the 2900 block of Mount Pleasant. According to a report from SLMPD, the gunshots specifically targeted the victims' legs and the injured were transported to a hospital for treatment, where they were said to be in stable condition.
The confrontation that led to this violent outbreak was reportedly initiated by a family dispute. Fueled by strong emotions, a 32-year-old man argued with the 23-year-old resident of the home over his presence there, which swiftly escalated into a heated altercation. After momentarily leaving, the suspect, identified as the 31-year-old woman's boyfriend, returned and shot at the home, inadvertently striking the legs of two family members.
Police efforts to apprehend the gunman involved significant resources, including the engagement of SWAT and negotiation teams. According to the SLMPD's press release, officers first located the suspect's Ford Fusion abandoned in the 3100 block of Osceola. This discovery led officers to a residence in the 4400 block of S. Compton, where teams attempted to arrest the suspect believed to be inside. However, upon entry, officers found the home empty, a revelation that extended the scope of this manhunt.
Finally, on April 23, the search came to a close when the 32-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with multiple felonies. The Circuit Attorney’s Office charged him with one count of Domestic Assault 1st Degree and other serious offenses against the victims, firmly ensnaring the suspect within the grip of the justice system. "The investigation remains ongoing," reported the SLMPD, as the authorities continue piecing together the events leading up to the shooting.
