A suspect has been arrested following a midday break-in and a subsequent manhunt in Shrewsbury's Edgemere neighborhood, as reported by the Shrewsbury Police Department via their social media page. According to police documentation, officers were called to Robertson Drive on Tuesday after receiving reports of an individual attempting to forcibly enter homes in the area.
The initial call came in at approximately 1:38 PM, and upon arrival, officers learned from witnesses that the suspect had fled on foot, and confirmed signs of a break-in at one residence and an attempted entry at another. A large law enforcement contingent, including thirteen Shrewsbury Police Officers and several Massachusetts State Police Troopers, swarmed the locale to establish a perimeter while K-9 units and the Shrewsbury Police Drone Unit contributed to the dragnet, the aforementioned social post elaborated.
The chase concluded near Lake Quinsigamond where Lt. Perna of the Shrewsbury, MA Police Department spotted the suspect emerging from the water and promptly detained him at gunpoint on a dock on Lakeside Drive at approximately 2:12 PM. With backup from Lt. Caviston and Officer Desimone, authorities arrested the suspect without further complications, and recovered stolen items and a ski mask in his possession.
In the aftermath, investigators identified the suspect as 34-year-old Joseph Walker from Worcester, MA, and the charges against him include "B&E Daytime, Larceny From a Building, Receiving Stolen Property under $1200, Possession of Burglarious Instruments, Conspiracy, Attempt to Commit a Crime (B&E), Malicious Destruction of Property, Disturbing the Peace and Disorderly Conduct", according to the Shrewsbury, MA Police Department statement, a backpack linked to Walker was later found which housed additional evidence related to the crime spree.
