An individual is now in custody following an officer-involved shooting situation in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area this past Saturday. The Kane County Sheriff's Office had earlier alerted the community of a "potentially dangerous suspect" before the incident, as reported by ABC4. Responding law enforcement rangers encountered a suspicious vehicle on Highway 89, triggering a sequence of events that concluded with gunfire.
The encounter rapidly escalated when, according to officials, the suspect attempted to evade rangers and ended up forcefully ramming into a patrol vehicle. In response, rangers were compelled to quickly take their firearms into action, resulting in the suspect's injury. KUTV details that the suspect was subsequently transported to a hospital in Page, Arizona, where they received treatment for non-critical injuries before being taken into custody.
This confrontation prompted a multi-agency investigation, now involving the National Park Service (NPS), the Kane County Sheriff's Office, and the FBI. Despite the violent altercation, the NPS assured the community, in a news release discussed by FOX13, that there is no current threat to public safety stemming from this incident.
