After eluding Phoenix law enforcement for over a year, 21-year-old Daymon French was arrested during a traffic stop on May 12. French is suspected of the fatal stabbing of 43-year-old Johnny Vaughn in October 2023. FOX 10 Phoenix reported that French was taken into custody and booked into a Maricopa County jail on charges of second-degree murder.
According to authorities, the arrest was made around 11:30 p.m. Maintaining a vigilant eye, officers identified French as the subject of an existing warrant during what was to be a routine traffic stop, as per FOX 10 Phoenix. This long-sought suspect is now facing the formidable consequences of a legal system he had skirted for nearly eighteen months. The details of Vaughn's death came to light when he was hastily dropped off at a local hospital near 39th Street and Bell Road, bearing critical injuries from which he would not recover.
Tracking down French proved challenging for Phoenix police, who made several attempts to locate him over the past year but were unsuccessful, as noted by 12 News. Despite the elusive nature of French, the officers' consistent efforts eventually paid off when a traffic stop served as the pivotal moment for the arrest, bringing French to face the allegations against him.
