Last week, a brazen act of theft at Mazatlan Taqueria in Hercules led to the arrest of a suspect who is now facing serious charges. Last Friday, at approximately 8:49 PM, Hercules Police Department officers responded to the taqueria after a robbery report. An individual, recognized by a taqueria employee as a regular customer, stole the tip jar, which contained about $200, as reported by the Hercules Police Department's social media post.
The situation escalated when the employee confronted the suspect outside the establishment. The suspect, who was wearing a medical mask, allegedly made a threatening motion toward his waistband. This act instilled fear for her safety in the employee, and the suspect subsequently fled in a silver Nissan Murano. The suspect's identity was not immediately known, but the police managed to track him down through a sustained investigative effort.
Police work led to the suspect's identity, a Hercules man under Postrelease Community Supervision (PRCS) and with an existing warrant to his name. With the help of a sequential photo lineup, the taqueria employee positively identified him as the perpetrator. This identification played a pivotal role in the case.
That same evening, a flock camera system picked up the vehicle's license plate associated with the suspect. Following a police notification, officers attempted to apprehend the suspect, culminating in his arrest at his residence after he tried to evade capture. The Hercules Police discovered evidence in the vehicle, including clothing matching the robbery and a medical mask. The suspect was booked for theft, PRCS violations, and his outstanding warrant.
