Preparation for the Tahoe City Fanny Bridge Replacement Project begins in early June. Starting June 16, night work will connect culverts to the Tahoe City Dam gates to divert water around the existing bridge and back to the Truckee River. A one-lane closure will occur during evening hours. From August 11 to November 3, the bridge will be fully closed, and traffic will be redirected to the State Route 89 Bypass, according to the County of Placer.
Deputy County Executive Officer Stephanie Holloway said, "We are very excited to begin construction of the enhanced bridge project, which will serve our community and visitors to Lake Tahoe for decades to come." She added, "We’re doing everything we can to keep state Route 89 moving smoothly and make sure that there are limited impacts on business, including our rafting companies." The new bridge will include sidewalks and bike lanes on both sides to improve pedestrian access while maintaining the original design. To reduce environmental impact and construction time, the project will use precast components and existing abutments, as reported by the County of Placer.
The Fanny Bridge Replacement Project in Tahoe City will keep all businesses open and maintain pedestrian access across the Truckee River via the Lake Tahoe Dam walkway. The project is a collaboration between Placer County, the Central Federal Lands Highway Division, Caltrans, Tahoe Transportation District, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, and the Tahoe City Public Utility District. FHWA/CFLHD is responsible for design and construction, with Thompson Builders contracted for construction. Updates are available on the County of Placer's project webpage.
