Travelers in Blount County will need to plan for detours as State Route 334, known locally as Louisville Road, is set for closure due to bridge repairs and construction work. According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), the road between Proffitt Springs Road and Alcoa Highway (US 129/State Route 115) will be shut down starting at 9 AM tomorrow. The closure will affect drivers around the clock, staying in effect 24/7 to facilitate the necessary overhaul of the bridge spanning the CSX railroad tracks, as well as the construction of a pedestrian bridge that will be part of Eagle Greenway.
The traffic interruption is programmed to run through Saturday, May 17, as stated on the Tennessee Department of Transportation website. While the construction unfolds, signage will route drivers around the work zone, aiming to minimize confusion and maintain safety. As the equipment and crews work diligently, playing an intricate dance with steel and earth, they beckon residents to seek alternative paths.
Completion of the project is not set in stone; weather conditions can dash the best-laid plans of mice and men. The TDOT urges local motorists to expect delays and advises using caution when navigating the vicinity of the construction site, as the presence of the workers will pose additional risks to the unwary commuter.
