A teenage pedestrian remains in critical condition following a traffic accident in Redwood City last week. The collision, which involved a vehicle and the 17-year-old pedestrian, took place on the 2700 Block of El Camino Real at approximately 12:10 PM last Monday, the Redwood City Police Department reports.
Following the incident, Redwood City Police Officers, alongside the Redwood City Fire Department and AMR medics, responded to the scene. The young pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with significant injuries. The 64-year-old driver, hailing from Menlo Park, was also taken to the hospital for an evaluation.
Initial investigations, supported by witness accounts and video evidence, suggest that the driver ran through a red light, hitting the minor who was within their rights in the crosswalk. A Redwood City Police Department statement mentioned that "there were no obvious signs of impairment due to drugs or alcohol." Instead, medical personnel at the scene speculated that the driver may have suffered a medical event before the accident.
