A fatal incident occurred at a Mesa apartment complex late Wednesday evening, leaving a teenager dead and another individual wounded. Police arrived at the Premiere at Dana Park apartments, following reports of a shooting around 10 p.m., as stated in a report by FOX 10 Phoenix. The Mesa Police Department found two victims with gunshot injuries, one of whom—16-year-old Azriel Lloyd—unfortunately succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.
In an attempt that was initially to rob someone, Lloyd was purportedly attending a party before he departed with another man, as per the details provided by Arizona's Family. A neighbor, Latonya Davis, who works in the medical field, shared her account of rushing to assist one of the victims who had been shot, applying pressure to his wounds. "He got shot. Gun wound in his right hand and in left ankle, and I was there applying the pressure to his foot," Davis recalled. She also mentioned that the victim relayed the shooter was wearing a ski mask and fled in a red sedan.
Multiple suspects have been detained in connection with the shooting, though their identities have not yet been released. Mesa Police emphasized that the incident seems isolated, with ongoing investigations at several locations. So far, no arrests have been made, but two investigative leads have been questioned, as reported by both FOX 10 Phoenix and Arizona's Family.
The aftermath of the shooting hastily expanded beyond the initial scene, involving a brief standoff at a Litchfield Park home, located over 40 miles from the Premiere at Dana Park apartments. After authorities pursued a suspect vehicle from the original scene, the individual surrendered after multiple agencies surrounded the residence, according to Arizona's Family. The police have detained that person, but they are not currently labeling them as a suspect in the shooting.
