A tragic car accident in Livingston County has claimed the life of a teenager and left two others injured, as reported by local authorities. The incident occurred on Whitmore Lake Road, near M-36, in Green Oak Township, at approximately 10:36 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, and involved a single vehicle, a Mercury Montego.
The ClickOnDetroit report indicates that the vehicle rolled during the accident, resulting in the ejection of a 16-year-old from the back seat, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Although first responders provided aid, their efforts were in vain. The driver and another 16-year-old who was seated in the front suffered injuries and were both hospitalized.
Preliminary investigation has raised suspicions that alcohol or drugs may have contributed to the crash, as mentioned in coverage by Livingston Daily. After the driver refused to take a preliminary breath test, law enforcement secured a search warrant to administer a blood draw; results for which are pending, the identities of the individuals involved have not been disclosed as police are in the process of family notification.
The CBS News Detroit further confirms that the Green Oak Township Police Department is working together with the Livingston County Prosecutor's Office to determine potential charges in the wake of the accident, which involved three young persons: an 18-year-old driver, along with two 16-year-olds, one of whom tragically did not survive the crash.
