Yesterday morning, at approximately 10:00 a.m., a twin-engine airplane destined for the Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport met tragedy, crashing into a field near Brainard Drive and Midway Boulevard. The crash site, located in unincorporated Boulder County, is now tangled with wreckage and seared earth where a small grass fire had broken out, according to Boulder County.
Prior to the crash, the aircraft had reached out to air traffic control to report an issue and was in the process of attempting a return to the airport. The exact number of passengers on board during the catastrophic event remains undisclosed, with confirmations pending as next of kin are to be notified. In an unfortunate revelation, it has been confirmed there were no survivors.
First responders, including the North Metro Fire Rescue District, acted swiftly to extinguish the subsequent blaze sparked by the impact. As the field is part of a restricted open space for agriculture, authorities have urged the public to steer clear of the accident site. The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office intends to maintain a presence through the night to ensure the area remains secure.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by both the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Safety Transportation Board. Meanwhile, the Boulder County Coroner's Office shoulders the grave task of identifying the victims, whose names will surface once due process has been observed. Agencies contributing to the response efforts include the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, Boulder County Open Space, and the Broomfield Police Department among others. The case has been assigned the Boulder County Sheriff's Office case number 25-02367.
