Two separate crashes in New Orleans have tragically ended the lives of two individuals in the early hours of the day. The New Orleans police informed that the first incident occurred just after midnight on the I-10 East near France Road. By the time officers arrived at the Highrise Bridge, they found a woman fatally injured after a Dodge pickup truck struck the back of her vehicle as she attempted to retrieve a spare tire from her trunk. The driver of the Dodge fled the scene on foot and remains at large, as per WDSU.
WDSU reports that emergency responders pronounced the person dead at the site of the crash. It is understood that the pedestrian was involved in a previous accident and had begun to walk across the flow of traffic when struck by an unknown vehicle that subsequently fled the area.
WWLTV provided further details on these tragic events, noting that the NOPD is investigating the first crash and indicated "the victim was traveling up the Highrise Bridge when she got a flat tire" and that she "was getting her spare tire out of the trunk" when the collision occurred. This account was echoed in an interview with the New Orleans Police Department. The Louisiana State Police have taken the lead on investigating the second fatal occurrence.

Barry Fletcher, who described the response to the first crash, saying, "Police responded to Interstate 10 on the Highrise shortly before 12:30 a.m. today on a report of an accident." As for the Crescent City Connection incident, Fletcher detailed that the NOPD had responded "shortly before 2:10 a.m. today" to find a pedestrian fatally struck in the west bank-bound lanes.
