Early this morning on the east side of Indianapolis, a botched burglary escalated into a violent altercation, leaving two people with serious stab wounds. IMPD officers responded to a distress call at approximately 12:10 a.m. in the 1500 block of East Michigan Street, opposite Arsenal Tech High School. Upon arrival, they discovered a man and a woman, both suffering from stab injuries believed to be connected to an attempted burglary gone awry. WISHTV reports that the victims were promptly taken to a local hospital and are in stable condition.
The suspect, whose burglary attempt had reportedly been interrupted, stumbled upon the victims during the crime. Amidst the chaos, various descriptions emerged of the weapon employed, ranging from "a machete-type weapon" to a "flashlight weapon with a taser on the end of it," Captain John Arvin was quoted in an account by FOX59. Investigators are currently piecing together the details, working to ascertain the exact nature of the weapon used.
The perpetrator, after having failed to attain his objective, fled to an abandoned apartment. His attempt to escape was compromised when he accidentally cut himself on the abdomen while trying to quickly break out through a window. The self-inflicted injury led to his arrest as police were able to apprehend him shortly thereafter. The suspect was likewise taken to an area hospital due to the injuries sustained during his escape effort, as reported by WIBC.
An investigation into the night's harrowing events is now fully underway to thoroughly comprehend the incidents that unfolded in the quiet neighborhood. While details of the weapon involved remain murky, the assault’s aftermath is clear. "He couldn’t burglarize anymore, so he had to get out and he didn’t get anything," Captain John Arvin told FOX59, highlighting the ultimate futility of the crime.
