Two individuals are recovering after their small plane crashed in the Florida Everglades near Homestead, with emergency services responding quickly to the scene. According to WSVN, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue was alerted to an aircraft incident along the 28700 block of Southwest 217th Avenue at around 7:35 p.m. yesterday. After taking off from North Perry Airport and journeying through the Florida Keys, the Cessna made a distressed landing a short distance from the Miami Homestead General Aviation Airport.
Rescuers, upon arriving, found the two passengers on the wing of the downed aircraft, seated. "Paramedics transported them by ground to an area hospital to be checked out," as reported by WSVN, and fortunately, serious injuries were not on the list of their worries. The individuals involved in the crash were soon spotted by an air rescue helicopter, which conducted a hoist operation, as detailed in a NBC Miami report.
The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, but early reports from the Federal Aviation Administration cited by NBC Miami suggested that the pilot had reported possible engine issues before the crash occurred. The FAA is now leading the inquiry to understand what led to this aviation incident, delving into the aircraft's condition and the communications made in the moments before the plane was forced earthward.
Both survivors of the crash were taken to Miami Executive Airport in Tamiami, although the extent of their injuries has not been disclosed. The FAA is continuing its investigation into the incident, working to uncover the cause through its established oversight processes.
