The University of Cincinnati is certainly celebrating the recent accomplishments of three standout students from its College of Medicine. According to an announcement on the university's website, David Warner has been awarded the Presidential Medal of Graduate Student Excellence (PMGSE). Mallika Desai and Anna Shepard secured the Presidential Leadership Medal of Excellence (PLME).

Warner, a new Doctor of Medicine graduate, didn't expect to be one of just two university-wide recipients of the PMGSE this year. "I was completely taken by surprise," he told the University of Cincinnati News. Warner's medical school experience was marked by active leadership roles and a passion for nephrology and medical education, particularly evident through his work with the Curriculum Committee and the Nephrology Medical Student Scholars Program.

Desai wrapped up her undergraduate career with a BS in medical sciences and adjunct achievements in policy and creative realms. She launched the nonprofit Parkinson's Together and engaged in policy research through various university programs. "UC has empowered me to chase my curiosities and think beyond disciplinary boundaries," Desai expressed in an interview with the University of Cincinnati News.

Shepard earned accolades through her dedication to global health equity and community service. With experience spanning international borders, she conducted public health research in Slovenia and worked on community health initiatives back home in Cincinnati. After her surprise PLME recognition, she said, "I've had the immense pleasure to mentor and be mentored." As stated in the university announcement, Shepard plans to teach English in the Czech Republic soon with the Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Program.

Their achievements spotlight individual excellence and collectively embody the spirit and values that the College of Medicine aims to instill in its students. These awards underscore the university’s dedication to fostering leadership, scholarship, and service within its community and beyond. As Warner, Desai, and Shepard continue their professional journeys, they carry the distinction of their honors and commitment to serve and lead wherever their careers take them.
