The University of Cincinnati's student newspaper, The News Record, has appointed Hajra Munir as its new editor-in-chief. A second-year law and society major, Munir's roots in writing stretch back to her childhood when she documented her thoughts and crafted stories and poetry with a fervor that hinted at her future pathway.

"I was always writing. Whether it was in a journal, writing stories or writing poetry,” Munir shared in the University of Cincinnati's official news site. This early love of writing continued to quicken, evolving into a profound passion when she stepped onto the journalistic stage at Walnut Hills High School alongside her brother. There, Munir began to seriously entertain the idea of turning her writing into something more than just a private endeavor.

At the University of Cincinnati, Munir pursued journalism with zeal, discovering in its practice a newfound confidence and sense of purpose. According to the University of Cincinnati news article, Munir said, “I started news writing and I absolutely loved it.” She speaks of journalism as a transformative force that has sculpted her into the individual she is today.

As the incoming editor-in-chief, Munir is positioned to now guide The News Record, steering it to cover a diverse range of subjects, from the pulse of campus life to the beats of sports and entertainment. The student-run news organization has long been a venue for up-and-coming journalists to cut their teeth on the bank of real-world reporting experiences. “I felt like I could be who I wanted to be. I felt like this is what I want to do, that this is what I love,” Munir told the University of Cincinnati in an interview, signaling her readiness to take on the mantle of leadership and to continue passionately advocating for the craft of journalism.
