A water main break near Callahan Drive on Clinton Highway escalated into a partial flooding event today, with initial reports of the incident surfacing in the early hours of the morning. WATE reported that the break occurred along Clinton Highway and led to the partial closure of the road due to flooding.
The northbound flow of cars was constricted to a single lane following the rupture of the main. Tennessee Department of Transportation spokesperson Mark Nagi advised drivers to use caution in the affected area, with initial warnings issued around 8:20 a.m., according to the information provided by WBIR. Observations from the scene indicated that water was seeping into the westbound lanes as well.
While WVLT mentioned that the break happened at around 8:30 a.m. near Old Callahan Drive, it is currently unclear what prompted the water line to rupture. As workers rushed to manage the situation, impacted drivers were asked to find alternate routes to circumvent the congestion and emergent flooding.
TDOT crews were promptly dispatched to tackle the exigency, with efforts to contain the flood and repair the water main underway. The cause of the break still has not been released, and an estimate for the duration of lane closures remains unspecified.
