In the early hours of Monday, Webster Police Department reported an arrest made during a traffic stop that uncovered a substantial amount of illicit drugs. Officer Alex Johnson was on patrol around 2:10 am on North Main Street, an area known for heightened drug activity, when he spotted a vehicle with an equipment violation. The stop led to the discovery of fentanyl and crack cocaine, primed for distribution, and the arrest of a 23-year-old suspect.

Webster Police Department Massachusetts shared details on their Facebook page, where they outlined the events of the arrest. Officer Johnson, with backup from Officers' Murray, Blomgren, and Stephens, approached the vehicle and engaged with the two occupants. During the interaction, Officer Johnson noticed a knotted plastic bag visible in a shoulder bag worn by the passenger, identified as Omar Cruz. Despite an attempt by Cruz to hand off the bag, both he, and the driver were detained.

A search of the shoulder bag revealed 32.2 grams of crack cocaine and 22.4 grams of fentanyl, assorted in numerous baggies suggesting intent to distribute. Also found in the bag was a digital scale and a cache of cash amounting to $1,458, suspected to be from drug sales. Following these findings, the Webster Police charged Cruz with trafficking cocaine and fentanyl, and conspiracy to violate controlled substance law.

The announcement came with a breakdown of the charges faced by Cruz: "Trafficking Cocaine 18-36 Grams," "Trafficking in More Than 10 Grams of Fentanyl," and "Conspiracy to Violate Controlled Substance Law." An on-call Bail Commissioner set his bail at $15,000, and Cruz was arraigned at Dudley District Court, the morning following his arrest, as per Webster Police Department Massachusetts.
