Heads up Southbound LA 47 commuters: you're in for a detour this weekend. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced a full and multi-lane closure of the southbound direction on the LA 47: IWGO Green Bridge from tomorrow at 10 p.m. to Saturday, May 31 at 5 a.m. According to their announcement, the closure will allow crews to realign concrete barriers and add fresh lane striping on the bridge deck.
While southbound traffic will need to seek alternative routes, the northbound lanes on the bridge will be unaffected by the construction work and remain open to vehicular passage. Drivers attempting to navigate southbound on I-510 to LA 47 are advised to reroute via I-10, Elysian Fields, LA 39, and then reconnect with LA 47. This detour is specifically designed to work around the closed segment of the bridge, aiming to minimize disruptions to the regular flow of traffic.
The ongoing $45 million cleaning and painting project for the bridge, which this weekend's closure is a part of, is slated for completion late this year. These refurbishments are set to extend the lifespan of the bridge infrastructure and improve safety and aesthetics for drivers traversing the Mississippi River via the Green Bridge.
