Residents of the Autumn Rd neighborhood in Weston are on alert after a package thief was caught on camera last Friday. The Weston Police Department released a Facebook post seeking help from the public to identify the suspect involved in the theft of two iPads, each valued at $1,000. The elusive items, just minutes after they were delivered in the early afternoon, had vanished from the porch, thanks to the suspect's quick action, as per the Weston Police Department.
As package thefts in this area have become a troubling norm, the Weston Police Department is urging community members to take preventive measures. According to the post by Weston Police, residents are recommended "having higher value items shipped to a secure pickup location or require a signature for delivery." They're also calling for anyone with information about the suspect to come forward and contact the Weston Police Detective Unit at 781-786-6200.
In its efforts to clarify, the Weston Police Department pointed out that although the suspect was seen with a bag from an online retailer, the company listed on the bag "is not this person's employer." This distinction is critical, to prevent any unwarranted association that may arise from the brand visible in the footage of the theft.
The community is reminded that package theft is not only a seasonal concern but a persistent issue that necessitates vigilance and collective action. Should you witness any suspicious activity, or if you possess information that could lead to recovering the stolen goods or identifying the suspect, you're encouraged to reach out to the authorities.
