Early this morning, Worcester Police apprehended a man on charges of carrying an illegal gun and possessing drugs with intent to distribute. According to a social media post by the Worcester Police Department, officers responded to a call at approximately 1:55 a.m. on Pleasant Street, where they encountered an individual brandishing a firearm.
The situation escalated when the suspect, later identified as thirty-nine-year-old Gilbert Morin of Worcester, spotted law enforcement and fled through Worcester Common, weapon in hand. During the chase, which spilled onto Franklin Street, Morin stumbled and discarded his firearm onto the street before being handcuffed by the pursuing officers.
In the course of their search, police found Morin to be in possession of a large plastic bag of suspected crack cocaine. Further investigation also revealed that he lacked a proper license to carry. The Worcester Police Department's post detailed that Morin now faces multiple charges including "Unlawful Carry of a Firearm, Unlawful Carry of a Loaded Firearm, Improper Storage of a Firearm, Possession of Class B Substance with Intent to Distribute."
