The Worcester Police Department's Neighborhood Response Team responded to a late-night incident on Friday last week in the Main South area involving two men, a sawed-off shotgun, and suspected drugs.

According to the Worcester Police Deparment, the situation began when a lieutenant monitoring surveillance footage saw a man, later identified as Martineau Lucien, appearing to carry an illegal firearm and acting aggressively near the corner of Main and King Street. As officers approached the scene, another man, 24-year-old Devonte James of Claremont Street, fled and discarded a sock containing 26 bags of suspected crack cocaine. James was apprehended and charged with possession of a Class B substance with intent to distribute.

While officers were detaining James, Lucien approached and was identified by the lieutenant. He was detained, and a search behind a Main Street property led to the discovery of a sawed-off shotgun. Lucien, 32, of Hammond Street, was charged with unlawful possession of a sawed-off shotgun and other firearm-related offenses. The investigation remains ongoing.
