A Worcester taxi driver experienced a violent fare dispute on Bancroft Street last night that ended with him in the hospital. According to a social media post by the Worcester Police Department, the assault with a dangerous weapon occurred around 8:47 PM.
Responding officers found the male taxi driver, alert and conscious, bleeding from his chin and quickly intervened to help stop the bleeding. Tracing the steps back, the victim recalled how after giving a ride from Westborough to Worcester, things took a sharp turn when he requested the cab fare. The passenger, instead of paying, struck him with a sharp object and fled the scene. Running from the scene, the suspect was later apprehended on Bluff Street, found with a stolen green bicycle.
The assailant, identified as 41-year-old Daniel Burrows, faces a slew of charges that include Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Larceny, Trespassing, and Providing False Information. Following the violent exchange and quick pursuit, Burrows' capture brings a small measure of closure to the sudden upheaval of the night.
