
A suspect has been taken into custody following a shooting incident that occurred on yesterday night in Springfield. The Springfield Police Department reported that an adult male victim was transported to Mercy Medical Center with serious injuries after the shooting took place around 8:00 p.m. near Cedar Street and Lebanon Street. The victim was later moved to Baystate for further treatment.
In the early hours of Monday, police officers, acting on photographic evidence provided by the Springfield Police Real-Time Analysis Center (R-TAC), managed to quickly locate and attempt to identify a suspect in Riverfront Park. The subject, upon seeing the officers, tried unsuccessfully to flee the scene. The chase ended when police detained the 17-year-old suspect on the 0-100 block of State Street. According to a news release from the Springfield Police Department, during the pursuit, the suspect was seen discarding a plastic bag, which was later found to contain loose ammunition.
The arrest occurred shortly after 2:00 a.m., with the Springfield Police Detective Bureau, led by Captain Trent Duda, promptly charging the juvenile for the shooting that took place the prior night. Further investigations are ongoing as the bureau works to piece together the sequence of events.
