A recent shooting has led to the charging of 19-year-old Britton Boone after an altercation at the EZ Mart on Frayser Boulevard in Memphis. The Memphis Police Department reported that Boone has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, as confirmed by Action News 5. The incident, which took place on Wednesday, escalated when a man, who drove to the gas pump, witnessed Boone leaving the store and subsequently being shot at before he could exit his vehicle. Fleeing for safety, the unidentified victim sought refuge across the street and waited for the authorities to arrive.
After being apprehended, a search at Boone's residence led to the retrieval of a Glock 23 and an American Arms Omni Hybrid, which the police located in his bedroom. A multi-colored hoodie was also uncovered, closely resembling the hoodie Boone was reportedly wearing during the shooting, as stated by Action News 5. Officers matched the hoodies by studying the surveillance video from the EZ Mart, which further linked Boone to the crime.
As reported by WREG, Boone's bond has not been set at this time. The victim, injured with gunshot wounds to the chest and arm, remains in critical condition. Boone is scheduled to appear in court for a hearing on the matter this coming Friday.
The site of the incident, EZ Mart, carries a history marked by violence and crime. Previously, in September 2023, the establishment had been closed down, deemed a public nuisance due to numerous police calls numbering in the hundreds over two years. The store has since reopened after fulfilling the court-mandated conditions set for its operations, as documented by FOX13 Memphis. Boone, after being charged, awaits his court appointment for arraignment on Friday morning at 9:00 AM.
