A man is dead from an apparent self-inflicted wound and a woman is hospitalized following a domestic incident and SWAT standoff in Cherokee County.

According to FOX 5 Atlanta, deputies responded to a domestic dispute on Sunday afternoon at a residence on Still Lake Drive in Acworth. A woman was found in the cul-de-sac with multiple stab wounds and was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in serious condition. The identities of both individuals have not been released, but authorities believe they were in a relationship.

Atlanta News First reported that the Cherokee Multi-Agency SWAT team and hostage negotiators attempted to contact the man inside the home for several hours using loudspeakers. When communication attempts failed, smoke chemicals were deployed. A drone was then used to search the home, where the man was found deceased.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is continuing its investigation and is asking anyone with information to come forward. Authorities also remind the public that support is available through the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
