
Twenty years have passed since the unsolved homicide of Elzie Winston Jr., and the Alameda County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's assistance in breathing new life into the cold case. Winston, who was 25 years old at the time of his death, was fatally shot in the early hours of June 18, 2005, after an altercation outside the Sports Fan Club Bar in Hayward, a detail confirmed by a social media post from the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.

The incident, which took place around 1:15 AM on the 15000 block of Liberty Street, involved an unknown assailant who allegedly chased down Winston and shot him, following a confrontation; witnesses at the time reported seeing a black male adult as the perpetrator.
