
Antioch police officers are currently investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred early this morning in the residential area of the 3800 block of Osprey Drive. According to a press release posted on the Antioch Police Department's official website, the incident began when officers responded to a 911 call at 7:15 AM regarding a man threatening to kill everyone inside a home.
Upon arrival, officers encountered a 26-year-old male who was armed with a knife and reportedly rushed towards them. The confrontation resulted in an officer-involved shooting. "Officers immediately provided aid to the man. Unfortunately, he died at the scene," the Antioch Police Department states. The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of the next of kin.
The Antioch Police Department is currently handling the on-site investigation, and as part of standard protocol, the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office will conduct its bilateral inquiry into the shooting. The department has requested that the community avoid the area to allow investigators to perform their work thoroughly.
