Austin Police Department homicide detectives are conducting an investigation following the unsettling discovery of two bodies in a Central Austin apartment. The grim discovery was made on Monday night in the 2400 block of Ashdale Drive, as reported by a KXAN article, which detailed how the first responders arrived to find both victims exhibiting "apparent trauma" and were "obviously deceased."
According to a CBS Austin report, the authorities were alerted to the situation around 8:23 p.m. by a caller who was visiting a relative's residence when they stumbled upon the troubling scene. The police were forced to make entry into the apartment to properly assess the situation, finding two bodies with signs of trauma, as the original call had indicated. At this time, details such as the identities, ages, and genders of the victims have yet to be publicly released.
This situation in Austin is currently regarded as the city's 29th homicide of the year, with the possibility of being classified as the 30th, pending further inquiry by detectives. The APD's Corporal Matthew Nonweiler, in a briefing, mentioned that the incident appears to be an "isolated incident with no threat or risk to the public at this time," echoing a sentiment reported by KXAN.
The community awaits further information as officers continue to methodically process the crime scene. Investigators received a search warrant early Tuesday morning, as described by Nonweiler: "They're currently executing that search warrant to try to determine what's going on with these two deceased bodies." APD has encouraged anyone with relevant information about the case to come forward and assist, providing contact options via telephone at 512-974-TIPS, or to report anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program at 512-472-8477.
