Heads up, Ashland residents. The local DMV on Tolman Creek Road will be taking a short hiatus. Slated for closure on Friday, June 13, the branch will be getting some much-needed facility work done, aiming to improve customer experience. Those in need of DMV services during this brief downtime won't have to venture too far, with alternative locations in Medford and Grants Pass ready to help out. According to a bulletin released by the Oregon Department of Transportation, the office will resume operations on June 16.
For those looking to bypass a visit to the DMV altogether, options are available. The Medford office is equipped with an Oregon DMV Express Kiosk, and over 20 services can be easily accessed online via DMV2U or through the trusted channels of phone or mail. However, if visiting in person is inevitable, the Ashland DMV's operational hours post-reopening will continue unaffected—open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on most weekdays, with a midday closure from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., and remaining closed over the weekend.
The DMV also reminds patrons of the looming REAL ID enforcement date. Due to increased demand, longer lines and wait times can be expected across many DMV locations. A point of consideration for those needing the REAL ID for air travel within the United States: it can take up to three weeks to receive your card in the mail, so plan ahead. "If you are planning on boarding a plane, make sure you have REAL ID-compliant identification in time for your trip," the ODOT bulletin emphasized. But for those not flying anytime soon, waiting to get your REAL ID until your next renewal might be a more convenient option.
Even though the Ashland DMV will be temporarily closing, the reminder to always check the status of a DMV office before a visit remains. The DMV stresses this, pointing out the current heightened demand for services like REAL ID, which is necessary for anyone 18 and older intending to fly domestically without a valid passport or other federally accepted ID. Those in immediate need can rest assured, knowing that the Ashland office will open its doors once more, come mid-June, ready to assist with the usual array of services.
