The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government (ACCGov) has appointed Judd Drake as the new Interim Manager, effective yesterday. According to the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government website, Drake has served as ACCGov Attorney since July 2019 and now takes over from Brad Griffin, who was limited in the length of his service due to his retiree status.
Drake's term as Interim Manager began at 8:00 AM yesterday and will continue until a permanent manager is hired. A national search for a permanent replacement began earlier this year. During this period, Deputy Chief Attorney John Hawkins will serve as Interim Attorney.
Brad Griffin, who had served as Interim Manager since January, officially transferred responsibilities to Drake following approval from Mayor Kelly Girtz and the Commission during a Regular Session voting meeting on Tuesday.
Drake previously served as County Attorney and Interim County Manager for Macon-Bibb County, experience that aligns with his current temporary role. Once a permanent manager is appointed, Drake will return to his position as ACCGov Attorney.
