Attention Atlanta drivers: a stretch of Martin Luther King Jr Drive NW/SW is getting a makeover. According to an announcement from the Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT), from this Wednesday, there will be significant traffic pattern adjustments to accommodate street resurfacing works. Specifically, the project will impact MLK Jr Drive between Northside Drive NW/SW to Mitchell Street SW. These efforts will send a clear message that the city is committed to maintaining its roads, but not without causing a bit of a shuffle for commuters.
The resurfacing plan will cause an intermittent closure of one traffic lane on the affected portion of MLK Jr Drive. However, lanes will remain open for vehicles, so the through traffic shouldn't come to a standstill. This will be in effect from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, until the resurfacing is complete. Additional traffic control measures will be in place, with enforcement officers and flaggers directing vehicles through detours and the work zone.
For those on Northside Dr SW, a minor navigational tweak will get you around the construction. Northbound traffic will need to turn right onto Markham St SW, then make a left on Mangum St SW. Southbound drivers will make a left turn onto Markham St SW, followed by another left onto Mangum St SW, rerouting them around the affected area.
