Atlanta police responded to a shooting incident last Monday afternoon that led to the arrest of a suspect, now facing multiple felony charges. Officials were first called to the scene at 590 Cascade Ave SW around 5:38 pm, where they found a man with a gunshot wound to the leg. He was transported to the hospital where he was reported to be alert and conscious, according to Atlanta Police Department's news release.
While investigating the Cascade Ave shooting, a report came in about another person shot at 1400 Donnelly Ave SW. Officers arrived to find another male victim, also with a leg wound, in what was soon determined to be a related case. Racing to the scene of the second shooting, officers quickly pieced together the violent tableau of events that unfolded.
The original victim stated that the altercation began when a group of male associates turned on him. One individual attempted to rob him of both cash and a firearm; during a struggle over the weapon, shots were fired and both men were injured. This story was corroborated by the second scene at Donnelly Ave, where the alleged perpetrator of the assault was discovered wounded.
Gabriel Breax, the suspect in the shootings, was identified and charged by the Atlanta police. With an active warrant out of South Carolina already to his name, the charges he now faces include aggravated assault, armed robbery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Breax was taken into custody and is awaiting trial in Grady Detention, as stated in the police report. Despite a violent confrontation that left two men shot, law enforcement was able to act quickly and bring the suspect into custody.
