In observance of the Juneteenth holiday, Barrow County has announced closures for several offices and facilities. According to the Barrow County release, administrative offices, courts, the senior center, and the animal shelter will be closed on Thursday. Juneteenth marks the end of slavery in the United States and is now recognized by many public and private entities.
Victor Lord Park will remain open to the public, though its buildings and athletic fields will be closed. Recreational facilities such as batting cages and pickleball courts will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
While the Barrow County Water office will be closed, essential staff will remain available to respond to emergencies. Residents with water emergencies can call (770) 307-6610, and for wastewater emergencies, the contact number is (770) 298-9527. Other inquiries can be directed to the office line at (770) 307-3014.
Public safety operations will continue as usual, with essential personnel on duty throughout the holiday to respond to emergencies.
