Heads up, Belle Chasse area commuters: your nightly drives are about to get a bit more complicated. The Department of Transportation and Development has announced a revised schedule for lane closures on LA23, starting 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. In an effort to install vehicle detection loops at the Burmaster intersection, the work, which is weather dependent and could change, will necessitate alternating southbound and northbound lane closures most of this week.

According to an announcement released by the DOTD, the updated lane closure agenda kicks off yesterday, June 17, with southbound alternating closures between Timber Ridge St and Burmaster St. The pattern continues with varying closures each day, including the northbound outside lane and the southbound inside lane between the same streets today, June 18.

The construction is part of the ongoing Belle Chasse Bridge and Tunnel Replacement Project which aims to improve traffic flow and safety in the area. Here's a brief rundown of how the closures will unfold: Tomorrow, June 19, drivers will be facing southbound left turn onto Burmaster and northbound left turn into bulb-out restrictions. Come Friday, June 20, the schedule calls for more southbound alternating closures in the same stretch. The week wraps up on Saturday, June 21, with closures affecting the northbound outside lane and southbound inside lane, all between Timber Ridge St. and Burmaster St.
