After several encounters with a man posing as a PG&E worker in the West Belmont area, Belmont residents are on high alert. The Belmont Police Department issued a warning via social media after reports surfaced of the individual attempting to gain access to homes under the guise of utility work. The suspect approached residents on Tuesday, but no entry was granted, according to the Belmont Police Department's post.

The Belmont police are urging the community to remain vigilant and never to hesitate to ask for identification from anyone claiming to represent service companies. "This person came to the door of several homes in the western part of Belmont. They strongly advise residents to thoroughly verify the credibility of individuals before allowing them to compromise their home security.
Instances of impersonation, such as this one, are not uncommon and tend to exploit the trust that homeowners typically place in service workers. As a precautionary measure, the police suggest contacting the utility company directly should there be any doubt about a worker's legitimacy. In this case, no incidents of actual entry have been reported, but the audacity of the attempts has raised concerns amongst community members.
Residents have been instructed to be especially watchful and report any sightings of the suspect to the Belmont Police Department immediately.
