Residents of a North Fulton neighborhood have found themselves under a boil water advisory following a significant water main break earlier this week. The mishap occurred Monday evening at the intersection of Morris Road and Lathene Drive in Milton, attributed to a contractor's error, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta. Fulton County Public Works crews managed to temporarily restore water service by Tuesday evening, but the area is not completely out of distress just yet. Final repairs are still on the docket, with a scheduled water shutdown to come.
According to Atlanta News First, the advisory stretches from Deerfield Avenue in the south to Flamingo Road in the north, enveloping portions near Morris Road and Lathene Drive. Most of the boil water advisory has been lifted, save for areas directly around the break. Residents can refer to a map provided by the county to check if their location falls within the affected zone.
Those residing within this quarter-mile radius are advised to boil tap water before it's utilized for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, mixing baby formula, or providing drinking water for pets. To ensure safety, the county recommends bringing water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before it cools off for use. As Fulton County conducts water quality tests, the boil water notice will remain in place until officials can verify that the water is free from public health concerns.
Preparations for the final cessation of the leak are scheduled, with the water being turned off this Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to facilitate the completion of repairs, as highlighted by a FOX 5 Atlanta spokesperson. Post-advisory, the county instructs residents to flush all faucets for at least two minutes before the water is deemed suitable for consumption or food preparation once again.
