Orange Line service was disrupted last night due to a small brush fire on the tracks, according to Transit Police. The fire started on the third rail between Stony Brook and Green Street stations just before 8 p.m., leading to shuttle buses replacing train service in the affected area.
Boston 25 News reported that an MBTA inspector extinguished the fire with a handheld extinguisher. No injuries were reported.
WHDH noted that the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. MBTA personnel responded quickly to assess the situation and restore service.
Train service resumed around 10:30 p.m. after a two-and-a-half-hour interruption. A statement from the MBTA, shared by Boston 25 News, said, “The MBTA apologizes to riders affected by the earlier Orange Line issue,” and emphasized that safety remains the agency’s top priority.
