Embarking on a journey into the realms of politics and public service, two students from Canutillo Independent School District have earned seats on U.S. Rep. Veronica Escobar's Congressional Youth Advisory Council. Alejandro López and Jacob Lozano, hailing respectively from Canutillo High School and Northwest Early College High School, are set to represent Texas's 16th Congressional District in the 2025–26 cohort of this forum for young voices.

In what's an accolade for the Canutillo ISD, the students' selection was announced with a note of pride. "We are incredibly proud of Alejandro and Jacob for representing Canutillo ISD at the national level," Superintendent Dr. Pedro Galaviz stated, as obtained by Canutillo ISD. "Their selection is a testament to the leadership potential that exists within our schools and the strong academic foundation we provide to help students thrive beyond the classroom."

The Congressional Youth Advisory Council (CYAC) is designed as a bridge for students in grades 10 through 12 to reach into the mechanics of democracy, public policy, and to leave a mark on the legislative process through active participation and discourse. During their tenure on the council, López and Lozano will engage directly with Congresswoman Escobar and her team through meetings that span across the academic year, and delve into various projects and discussions relevant to national legislation and civic issues.
