Charges have been leveled against a man accused of using his vehicle as a weapon against a Chicago police officer early Saturday morning. Carlos Sanchez-Roa, 28, faces attempted murder among other felonies following the altercation on Chicago's Northwest Side, per the Chicago Sun-Times.
The incident originated in the Belmont-Cragin neighborhood, where police responded to a report of battery and shots fired, according to Chicago police and a witness. Upon arrival, they found Sanchez-Roa in a red pickup truck. Despite orders to exit the vehicle, he instead accelerated, striking an officer. This led to officers discharging their weapons toward the truck as Sanchez-Roa fled, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
In the wake of the incident, Sanchez-Roa has been charged with first-degree attempted murder, aggravated battery of a peace officer, and aggravated assault of a peace officer. The recovery of a weapon from inside the truck further complicates the charges against him. Despite his injuries, Sanchez-Roa is scheduled for a detention hearing Monday, as reported by CBS News Chicago.
