A tragic loss echoes through the streets of Cincinnati after Laura Schueler, a 47-year-old woman, was found fatally shot early yesterday morning in Evanston. Cincinnati police were called to the 1500 block of Jonathan Avenue around 6:50 a.m., where they discovered Schueler suffering from a gunshot wound. The Cincinnati Fire Department later confirmed that Schueler had died from the injuries she sustained.
The Cincinnati Police Department's Homicide Unit is actively to investigate the incident, as reported by Local12. Public pleas have been made seeking information from anyone who may know something about this homicide, with authorities providing multiple contact channels, including direct lines to the Homicide Unit and CRIME STOPPERS, where individuals can remain anonymous and might even receive compensation for valuable tips.
The victim, Laura Schueler, was a transgender woman whose life was commemorated by friends and family in a candlelit vigil held at the very site where her body was found. Remarks collected by WLWT reflected the community's shock and heartache. "I'm hurt, I'm devastated," said Curtis Johnson, a friend of Schuler's, marking the loss as a painful intersection during Pride Month. Another friend, Tyson Carter, noted the cruelty of such violence occurring during a time meant to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community, "With her being a trans woman, I just feel like this is crazy during Pride Month. No time is right, but it hurts even more for it to be during pride time," he said.
As it stands, the Cincinnati police have yet to release specific details about a possible suspect or what may have led up to Schueler's shooting. WCPO likewise reported the absence of such disclosures, emphasizing the unresolved nature of this investigation.
