Cobb County Superior Court Judge Sonja N. Brown received the Distinguished Judicial Award at the State Bar of Georgia's Annual Meeting earlier this month. The award, presented by Young Lawyers Division President Kenneth Mitchell, Jr., recognizes members of the judiciary who support the professional development of young lawyers, according to a Cobb County Government news release.
Judge Brown has served on the Cobb County Superior Court since January 1, 2023. In addition to her judicial duties, she serves on the Board of Directors for the Tommy Nobis Center, an organization that helps individuals with disabilities develop job skills.
Before joining the bench, Judge Brown held leadership roles in legal offices in Fulton and DeKalb counties and worked in corporate law at Convergent Media Systems Corporation. She holds degrees from John Marshall Law School and Duke Divinity School, and earned an undergraduate degree in Mass Media Arts from Clark Atlanta University.
Judge Brown expressed her appreciation for serving both in the courtroom and in the community. She also noted that being an aunt to her two nieces and four nephews is among her most valued personal roles.
