Collierville is preparing for enhanced emergency services with the near completion of Fire Station 6, according to an announcement made earlier by the town's officials. The new station, strategically placed at 11670 E. Shelby Drive, is part of Collierville Fire & Rescue's efforts aimed at ensuring quicker response times and more comprehensive emergency medical services in a growing service area that encompasses schools, places of worship, parks, residences, and businesses. Designed to serve a district of approximately 7,000 residents, the station expects to handle an estimated 1,000 emergency responses annually.
The state-of-the-art Fire Station 6, as reported by the Town of Collierville, includes a two-story building with a three-bay garage for emergency vehicles, 10 rooms for dorm-style living for the firefighters, an area dedicated to training and dispatch operations, decontamination zones, and a storm-shelter restroom. With construction underway across from the Collierville High School Athletic Complex, the new station also hosts a fitness and wellness space and is equipped with a baby drop-off haven for infants in crisis.
Reflecting the department's community ties, the design of Fire Station 6 honors the local high school with its dragon mascot being featured in the building and on fire department equipment. In line with their mission for preparedness and fast response, aiming for an average response time of five minutes or less, the new station is a testament to Collierville Fire & Rescue's dedication to public safety excellence.
Along with expanding its infrastructure, Collierville Fire & Rescue is on a hiring spree seeking individuals who are passionate about serving their community. There are various roles available, from entry-level recruits who will be trained at the Fire Recruit School starting in Fall 2025, to certified professionals who might qualify for lateral pay. "We're looking for passionate, driven individuals to join Collierville Fire & Rescue," said the department, highlighting the competitive compensation and benefits that include health insurance, a pension plan, and career development opportunities, cited by the Town of Collierville.
