A 2-year-old boy has tragically lost his life after drowning in a pond behind his Monroe County home this past weekend. As reported by FOX5 Atlanta, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office shared that the deputies were called to the residence off Gose Road around 4:45 p.m. last Saturday.
Upon their arrival, officials witnessed an individual attempting to resuscitate the young boy through CPR. The toddler was quickly transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The child's identity has yet to be released by authorities, who are still to thoroughly investigate and conclude the circumstances surrounding this incident. According to 13WMAZ, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office stated in a press release, "Please keep this family in your prayers during this difficult time."
The local sheriff's office is treating the death as a "tragic accident," although the investigation is ongoing. This sentiment was echoed by officials who are tasked with piecing together the precise nature of how the toddler ended up in the pond. The community has been asked to offer their support and prayers to the mourning family during what is undoubtedly an immensely painful period.
An initiative called More Than A Number, created by Justin Baxley, helps grieving families connect with journalists respectfully while protecting their privacy. Families can fill out a form about their loved ones and receive guidance on next steps. The project has been praised and awarded by Poynter-Stand Together for its compassionate approach to handling sensitive information during tragic events.
