DeKalb County leaders are urging peaceful and lawful protests following recent demonstrations in Embry Village. Tensions increased when protestors entered Chamblee Tucker Road and attempted to march toward the interstate ramp, leading law enforcement to order the group to clear the roadway.
According to an official DeKalb County news release, officers called for additional support from the Georgia State Patrol and the County’s Tactical Response Team. Gas munitions were used after protestors did not comply with orders, and several arrests were made.
CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson stated that the right to protest is recognized in DeKalb County but emphasized that actions must remain lawful and not endanger public safety.
So far, eight individuals have been arrested. DeKalb County officials continue to support the right to demonstrate and encourage cooperation with law enforcement to maintain safety.
