DeKalb County has adopted a new paid family leave policy, unanimously approved by the county commission. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the policy provides up to six weeks of paid leave for county employees to care for a new biological, adopted, or foster child. It also includes leave for employees who need to care for elderly relatives.
Commissioner Ted Terry told FOX 5 Atlanta, “It is essential that our employees feel supported when caring for their families. No one should ever have to choose between their loved ones and their financial security.”
A press release cited by Decaturish notes that the policy is expected to help the county retain current employees and attract new talent. Commissioner Terry added, “I’m proud of DeKalb County’s swift action in implementing the family leave policy and reaffirming our commitment to equity and compassion in the workplace.”
